#medievalcrab part 3 (boring context bit) - the depictions are from medieval texts, books of hours, psalters, stained glass windows depicting the zodiac sign Cancer - that we now look at as a crab. It seems it’s not always been so - some of these depictions are of crayfish-like creatures, some have beetle-ish features - and indeed, the Ancient Egyptians did view the Cancer constellation as that of the scarab.
Regardless, I still adore these wee critters.
