The librarian at #NYAM was grabbing some rare books from me from the locked shelves in the reading room. (Some original copies of Laennec's work on lung disease.)

When she pulled them down, another book caught her eye: a copy of a medical treatise from the 16th century, reprinted in Kyoto in the 17th century. It was a gorgeous book, but one which neither of our expertises could make heads or tails of.

It reminds me of what my #medievalist colleagues always say: the medieval world is much larger, and much more vibrant than westernized accounts of that history would say.

So there's been a distinct lack of medieval content on my page for most of the semester so far, but I will say that a significant portion of my Music in Western Cultures class thought our chant unit was the highlight of the semester so far! (though that was before today's class, which was #dancing pavans and branles -- the energy, oh, the energy!)
