I was hoping to tame my rage and get better sleep with less thoughts running through my mind and both things have happened. I'm also more patient and kinder because I'm taking the time to think before I act/speak.

I've been stressed out lately with some good, old fashioned life happening at me, but one of the things that's been helping a lot is #meditating before bed.
"How did you learn to meditate, Mr. Defy?" You ask with a child-like innocence, as I throw my head back in boisterous laughter and tousle your hair.
Please, call me ADH. Mr. Defy was my estranged uncle that went to federal prison for burning down the post office he worked for in the '70s.
To answer your question, I learned by playing #VideoGames. Specifically, a game called #Playne. It is very cool and a cute polygonal fox instructs you in mindfulness and meditation techniques--BUT I just learned that the developer made a sequel called #Inward that is similar in concept but also involves journaling and cultivating a beautiful island, and it's totally freeeeeee!!
If you have an interest in learning about casual #meditation and you have a #Windows or #Linux PC (or a #SteamDeck), give it a shot!

After a lot of #thinking and #meditating on it, I've decide to shut down my mastodon instance. I just can't afford it right now. The storage is killing me. I also really miss the local feed. I'll move over to universedon soon
This isn't an answer, but more mulling on my part.
I've experienced #meditating in dreamless sleep (evidenced by waking up in the middle of the set jhānas sequence—the sequence had started "without the waking state me").
That helps shift my relationship with the waking state "me"—it, too, like sleep and the jhānas is a generated event.
Seems so long as I don't appreciate that contingent, generated status of waking functioning, I'm a bit deluded and not clued in and "suffering."

The places my mind wanders when #meditating are almost always moments in the past where I did or said something boneheaded.
My new way of handling this is by telling myself to extract the pearl from the embarrassing moment, the lesson. Let the shell of the embarrassment crumble away and tuck the pearl into my "third eye" and absorb it for better reactions in future stressful situations.
Then return to the breath.

If you're ever #meditating - especially on a traumatizing subject - and you start to get the shakes, let them shake themselves out. Touching a traumatic memory can trigger shaking or crying to release the tension that is the traumatic experience.
Like a dog shaking off a really good petting session and resetting to zero.
If you fight it you reinforce the trauma instead of letting it process and pass.
You can’t get very far without #grace. Expressing #grace manifests more of it, and helps lovingly release that which is no longer serving us. While #meditating on grace, spare some for the most difficult to embrace and love unconditionally, yourself. The #wounded child that was (and is) you needs it most of all. Namaste, y’all
