The #SciArtSeptember prompt gossamer made me think of the wings of this Megachile brevis leafcutter bee.

Unlike the better known, and imported honeybee, the Leafcutter bees are solitary and make no honey, but they are vital pollinators who play an important role in the ecosystem. They are found throughout the US and southern Canada from the Atlantic to the Pacific. 🧵1/2

Es ist ja nicht nur der Pollen.
Die Blattschneiderbienen (#Megachile) benötigen bestimmte Blütenblätter.

Raupen der Schmetterlinge benötigen bestimmte Pflanzen die gefressen werden müssen zum überleben.

Einfach mal was machen funktioniert nicht.

Leider wurde durch den Hype die Industrie auf den Plan gerufen vieles nutzloses inklusive Blühmischungen zu verkaufen.

Aber solange wir damit so weitermachen, wird sich das Artensterben leider nicht aufhalten lassen.

Guten Morgen zusammen, beim ersten Gartenrundgang habe ich ihre Spuren gefunden: auch in diesem Jahr ist bei mir die #blattschneiderbiene ( Megachile sp.) unterwegs. Immer an derselben Stelle, immer nimmt sie frische Blätter der Alba Rose 'Blush Hip'. Sie muss wohl irgendwo in der Nähe wohnen, aber ich habe ihr Nest noch nicht gefunden.
Sie schädigt übrigens die Pflanze nicht.

This work features 2 large linocuts of 2 leaf cutter bees: #Megachile relativa & Megachile brevis. These linocuts are made on collaged Japanese washi papers & cellophane to capture the colours in their bodies and wings. Each print has its own array of leaf & petal prints from leaves and petals used by leaf cutter bees from my garden. The plants used include raspberries, roses (leaves and petals), lily of the valley, lilac, lemon balm, ash, thicket creeper, round-leaved Crane's bill & more.

Eigentlich ist das eine tolle Meldung.

Mir tun aber die Insektenfallen irgendwie weh.

Am #Hirschauer Berg gibt es auch eine kleine Kolonie der
#Megachile parietina ( Schwarze Mörtelbiene ).

Jeder Fang der #Mörtelbiene ist daher ein Eingriff.

@loren I have Australia's largest bee for you: Megachile monstrosa.

Marked as sensitive as it may appear scary, but this solitary bee uses her huge mandibles to dig a nest in solid wood.

In the last photo, you can see her enlarging a knot hole while a gasteruption wasp (parasitic) waits for an opportunity to lay her egg on the bee's egg. Wood shavings were falling on me as I took this photo from below.
