The Damned Don’t Cry (1950), a delightfully overheated noir-tinged Joan Crawford melodrama. She becomes a fashion model and naturally winds up as a gangster's moll. A fine movie although Crawford was fifteen years too old for the part.

Madonna of the Seven Moons is a 1945 British Gainsborough melodrama but melodrama is hardly an adequate word to describe this truly bizarre film. It's beyond mere melodrama. Over-the-top, outrageously excessive, a delight from start to finish.

MADONNA OF THE SEVEN MOONS (’45): Another of the feverish Gainsborough melodramas, this one really taking the cake in the “twists no one could have possibly predicted” department. Without giving too much away: a staid woman lives quiet existence after a childhood trauma, but then her daughter comes to see her and the careful veneer deteriorates. I loved the feverish, potboiling atmosphere of the 2nd half. And beautifully photographed too. #melodramas #britishfilm
