"All I Need" is a song by American actor and singer #JackWagner. The song was released in 1984 from his debut album #withTheSameName. Wagner became known for his role as #FriscoJones on the #soapOpera #GeneralHospital prior to recording the song; he has since had roles on other television programs, such as #TheBoldAndTheBeautiful and #MelrosePlace. "All I Need" was written by #GlenBallard, #DavidPack and #ClifMagness and produced by Ballard and Magness.

MELROSE PLACE: "The Big Bang" - 5/22/1995, Fox

In the mid 1990s, when same-sex couples were nearly nonexistent on TV, gay regular character Matt was dating Paul, who eventually confessed he had a wife who he was planning to leave. Paul then told his wife that he planned to break up with Matt. Paul then killed her and framed Matt for the murder... part of a long history of 20th-century violent, morally twisted queer TV and film characters.

Almost from start to finish, Matt on MELROSE PLACE was one of the most mishandled LGBTQ regulars in TV history, mostly because Fox kept rejecting plotlines the writers and producers came up with for him. So in the early years he had almost no plot at all. Then they gave us this.

OUT OF THE CLOSET, a documentary about American TV depictions of homosexuality, ran on Bravo in 2004. It wasn't that long ago, but TV was so different then.

MELROSE PLACE: "Holy Strokes" - 1/1/1996, Fox

In his early years on the show, the gay regular Matt (Doug Savant) spent most of his time as a sexless, dateless sounding board for straight friends' problems. We were supposed to believe that a young gay guy living in West Hollywood (of all places) could never find a date or even get laid. In later years, he had a series of brief romances that involved amazingly little touching, which stood out as odd on an an otherwise horny prime-time soap.

This episode, during Matt's romance with actor Alan Ross (Lonnie Schuyler), was one of the few times it seemed he might have some sort of stable love life with a guy who wasn't trying to kill him, kidnap him or frame him for murder. The relationship didn't last long.
