Clearly, there is still much to learn about this corner of the dark genome defined by HEATR5 proteins and their co-factors.

This preprint from Groza et al. (Helge Ewers lab) looks really interesting. Exploring how particles (such as virions) gain entry to cells. Really neat application of synthetic tools to show that overcoming energy for membrane deformation is the key step to endocytosis.

#Introduction (just moved to new instance)
I am a cell biologist running a research group (@roylelab) focused on membrane traffic and cell division in human cells. My lab is in @Warwick_CMCB at #WarwickUni. My posts are mainly about #science and #CellBiology but also #music, #running and #cycling.
My previous handle was clathrin. For my data analysis alter-ego, follow @quantixed.

Faculty Opinions recommendation of our MitoPits paper (Küey et al. - Recruitment of clathrin to intracellular membranes is sufficient for vesicle formation)
Steve is presenting Méghane's work on transport of small vesicles inside cells this morning at the UCL-CMCB Workshop on Mechanobiology.

Yesterday we @roylelab celebrated 125 years since the discovery of the Golgi with Italian snacks from my recent trip to Rome with @simonecoppola! Feat. a cuddly Golgi borrowed from a mini @clathrin and Golgi earrings gifted to me by my colleague and friend Thilani! Thanks to fellow Golgi fans Felix Campelo and Ishier Raote for the inspiration - I might make this a yearly thing!

This new paper from Obashi and colleagues in the Taraska lab is very nice. It uses a FRET-CLEM approach to look at protein conformations in cells and tie those to ultrastructural correlates. Here they are looking at clathrin light chain dynamics relative to the clathrin cage during #endocytosis, but there are many other questions in cell biology where this could be applied.

Shows that TFG, a protein known to be involved in COPII-dependent export of secretory cargo from the ER, is also needed for Rab4-dependent trafficking in neurons. This appears to be unique to the central nervous system and likely explains the impact of TFG p.R106C in early-onset forms of hereditary spastic paraplegia.

Yesterday's UK Membrane Traffic meeting at UCL was great. So nice to be back in-person after a 3 year break. The talks were all interesting from synaptic vesicles, lysosomes, to IFT and array tomography. Talks from ECRs, new PIs, and a grandee in the field.
It's a mature #CellBiology field but there's still lots to discover. It made me really enthusiastic about the future of #membranetraffic.

I am slightly biased but Méghane just gave a fantastic talk here on vesicle movement in cells #CellBiology #MembraneTraffic
