When I went to see Alex a few days ago it was with the excuse to buy a dozen mixed bottles of his experimental stuff, some of which is still undergoing a not so quiet fermentation. We tasted some exceptional Macabeu, some Garnatxa, his new It's Now or Never and something new called Freak Forever that, like some explosive genie, was incapable of staying put.

Boxes packed (I also buy for my friends who are all addicts) I spotted a clearly labelled Acapulca through some black hole in the cellar, eyes widening like Ingrid Bergman seeing Rick after the Play it Sam scene.

Bought 6, I am drinking one, and I have just whatsapped Alex asking him for all the bottles left, which are probably 2.

Acapulca tasting will be left to another day.

1] Acapulca - a short story

There are natural wine makers, and there are extreme natural wine makers like Alex. The reason I hurried up to the Terra Alta with some last minute hope the other day had one name: Acapulca.

Alexes' wines are usually named after the T-shirts of some drifting friends who come and help him with the wine harvest or some evocative tune on the radio which happen to play in his cellar during wine bottling. But where the name Acapulca originated from, I don't know.

There is a particular Japanese buyer that buys all the Acapulca and ships it across the Eurasian continent to the other half of the world. I loathe this guy, but if I was him I would do the same.
