This 1964 photo of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Coretta Scott King was the inspiration for a new bronze memorial sculpture called "The Embrace," unveiled Friday on Boston Common, Massachusetts, USA.

The photo was taken shortly after the announcement that MLK would receive the Nobel Peace Prize.

Last Christmas my beautiful friend Monica finished her battle with cancer and left this world. This last year has been a continuous battle with grief as I processed the lost of such a wonderful and dear friend. I saw the struggle of her understanding her own mortality and her constant cling to life. She was incredibly fierce and was researching treatment until the very end.
This piece was my memorial of her I made last year.
