journey now at an end, after binging the last five episodes on a day off work. I don’t think it’s much of a spoiler to point out that, after all that drama, the “winners” and “losers” were always billionaires who never actually needed to fight at all. S4 took a political turn, even calling a character just to rub it in.

The American H. L. : ‘There are people who read too much: the bibliobibuli,’ he wrote in a fragment later published combining the Greek for ‘book’ () with the Latin for ‘fond of drinking’ (). ‘I know some who are constantly drunk on books, as other men are drunk on whiskey or religion. They wander through this most diverting and stimulating of worlds in a haze, seeing nothing and hearing nothing.’

HL Mencken's essay "The Libido for the Ugly," a screed against offensive architecture that is itself pretty offensive, is also pretty on the nose about American pride-in-sprawl and the aesthetic mysteries of the hideous. It takes a bit for this page to load, but wow. Perhaps best read aloud, though I had to stop a couple of times because I was sob-laughing.
