Kind of wonder how #VisibleMending #embroidery is done (without fancy expensive machines).
I'm more familiar with sewing it back together when possible and otherwise patching over it...

You might not be able to tell given my mending posts this year, but I wasn’t mending clothes very much for a long time, not even sewing on buttons.
Anyway, I made a whole pile of things that need buttons, and I’ve been working away at them in the last few weeks. Today I was pleased to realize that while I have two linen tops that need complete button replacements, I can use four of the buttons from one for the other! Then I just need to dig through my button collection for one set.
Did some #mending today on my favorite pair of jean shorts
This is two patches chained together because my darning loom isn't big enough to do it all at once
(How long, I wonder, until they're more art than denim)
I unpicked the collar from its stand. I was going to turn it over so it would look better.
But I looked at the other side of the collar and realized it was so much darker than the rest of the shirt that it was going to look funny.
So instead, I’m going to carefully remove all the bits of cut thread, baste the edges of the collar stand together, and edge stitch it. It should look like any other collarless shirt.
Darned the underarm of one of spouse’s linen shirts (his favorites).
I darned the larger hole with a double strand of thread because I thought it would be easier, but then when I darned the smaller hole with a single strand, I found that easier. Though actually, now that I think about it, it might have been that I sewed in the longer strands first and wove into those. Next time I’ll go the other direction and see if it’s less wobbly to work with.
I repaired some pants for my friend using sashiko mending. I think they turned out well and I think he likes them 😃

Love this shacket I made, but the fabric in the back massively ripped so I've got quite the patching project on my hands.

And I used Lang Yarns Jawool Reinforcement thread for this, as it wears like iron, I wanted something that matched the bag design and didn't want to even attempt using black thread on black fabric. If you need to mend holes in socks or sleeve cuffs or sweaters, or just want something more friction-y than cotton/synthetic thread, then this is what you want to keep in your mending kit.

Today in I love stuff but hate waste: I picked up this Mark by Mark Jacobs bag on eBay for about $35 shipped (the San Francisco Goodwill account has a constant $50-shipped cycle right now). The external details were all great, but the reason it was so cheap? The internal pocket was torn down one side. That's a challenge I'll take on, because even if I pushed through too many layers of fabric or fucked up aesthetically, who cares? It's inside the bag! Time taken: 15 minutes.

I just mended the drawstring of this skirt! It snapped a long time ago, and the knot I tied in it was too bulky to fit back into the... uh, drawstring hole?? Sheath?? What is that thing called?
Anyway, it's not very pretty, but it doesn't need to be - it's the part of the drawstring that stays hidden inside the skirt. I'm pretty proud of it - it needed to be thin enough to fit back in, and sturdy enough not to snap again, and it is! 🎉

#Fibrearts Spinning on wheels or spindles, some weaving, knitting and crochet.
#ttrpgs Tabletop gaming, which I've been playing since I was 9 or so, in the 1970s.
#cosplay and historical costuming, two things I've been doing since forever.
#sewing and #mending
Both are things I do often and love to help others with.
Old houses. Our house is only 110 years old, but I know a lot about caring for and restoring old buildings.

A while back, my mother gave us a quilt that someone gave her. It’s a classic scrappy four-patch. I don’t have a complete photo of it, but this should give you a sense.
Anyway, I’m firmly of the belief that quilts are almost always for using. So we’ve been using it, and it’s time to mend it.
Although I'm no seamstress, there's a lot of joy in mending things. Particularly when it's the stitch in time rather than the nine. #sustainability #repair #mending

Can you spot the #InvisibleMending? :D I think I did a pretty good job!

What do you do with your #embroidery pieces?
I've started using some of them (https://mastodon.art/@KarinWanderer/110701792467294780) as patches, like here on my favorite sweater. It's slowly turning from navy blue to black & green, because I don't have blue yarn.
#VisibleMending for the win!
