System degradation - The Darling River

"The suffocation of up to 30 million fish in western NSW has been described by a scientist as a "canary in the coal mine" for a sick river environment. NSW deputy chief scientist Darren Saunders said the fish deaths were symptomatic of a larger problem.

Have been out to #Menindee in both dry and wet times and was planning to go again, shortly. So sorry to see yet *another* mass fish kill.

That area is truly one of #Australia's treasures - awe-inspiring beauty and incredible wildlife... and yet it is treated *so* shabbily.

The fish in Menindee have died
Now abundant and rancid, eyes have cried
The clean-up will soon start
Money and time, depart
But these stinky fish must be denied
