The entrance to the Trades Hall on Glassford Street in Glasgow
Designed by Robert Adam and built in the 1790s, it was (and still is) home to the Trades House of Glasgow, an organisation dating back to the 1600s and incorporating 14 key crafts in the city.

There had been a church on this site since 1720, and buried its graveyard are a number of Glasgow's Tobacco Lords, including Andrew Buchanan and John Glassford, who made a fortune from trading tobacco grown on slave plantations in what is now the state of Virginia in the USA.

Today's animal from Glasgow's architecture is this apparently cross-eyed fishy beauty on 103 Hutcheson Street. Dating from around 1860, this is one of a series of similar sculptures above the second storey windows

So. I'm thinking of retiring in Glasgow when the time comes (several years from now?). Where is a good location south of the Clyde? Something with shops and cafes and grocers and such. #LGBTQ friendly. Any recommendations?

The Tollbooth Steeple at Glasgow Cross in Glasgow. I always love the way it catches the light when the sun in shining as it was yesterday morning. It dates from 1634 and is all that remains of the original Tollbooth building, most of which was demolished in 1921.

The Briggait and the Merchant's Steeple at sunset on Sunday.
While the Briggait is relatively new (only having been built in the 1870s), the steeple is much older. It was built in the 1660s as part of the long-gone Merchant's House.

Statue of Mercury on the top of the Italian Centre in Glasgow.
Despite its appearance, and it's classical style, this is a relatively modern piece (dating from the late 1980s) by Scottish sculptor Alexander Stoddart.
