32β°, 90% humidity, and my brain is melting. I need a #soundtrack to reset, to upload, to remedy.
You Can't Steal My Joy by #EzraCollective is, in the words of Rolling Stone, "a lean exuberance to this band that demands a dancing response" and, yeah. Mood this.
Prog jazz with blues undertones, and a bop to make you smile in the best of times, the worst of times.
And they won the #MercuryPrize recently. Something tells me this is the start of something big.

Thought that all the artists performing live at the #MercuryPrize awards really rose to the occasion tonight.
Jessie Ware knocking it out of the park at the start of this #MercuryPrize programme
Heavy Heavy - Young Fathers
Stunning, stunning record! Permits so much space, yet equally energetic throughout. Keeps you on your toes throughout.
5/5
Nymph - Shygirl
Unfortunately this did nothing for me whatsoever. All a bit repetitive throughout and not a huge fan of the vocals either.
2.75/5
Messy - Olivia Dean
There was a real moment where I thought that this could be a really interesting pop record with UFO, but for the most part it's neo-soul that's been done countless times. Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed the album, I wanted a bit more.
3.5/5
hugo - Loyle Carner
I mean, what can I say about this album? It's incredible. Deeply personal, tackling his identity, his relationships and his heritage. The opening two tracks are phenomenal.
5/5
I Love You Jennifer B - Jockstrap
An ever changing mix of music, always keeps you on your toes. I really like this album, but don't quite love it.
4/5
That! Feels Good! - Jessie Ware
I have a real soft spot for this album! It's a fantastic pop record, with disco tinged songs. Free Yourself is an absolute gem of a track.
4.75/5
Actual Life 3 - Fred Again..
This was fine, but not exactly exciting. A couple of tracks that had my ears pick up, but nothing to truly grab me.
3/5
Beautiful And Brutal Yard - J Hus
I don't get this nomination at all (I know I'm not exactly the target audience for this).
π - production wise, it was pretty great.
π - Lyrically some of it is seriously questionable and some songs ended up being samey
2/5
Where I'm Meant To Be - Ezra Collective
One of my favourite albums from last year. This album is a joy from start to finish. As the lady who spoke to TJ says, music has the power to change your mood.
4.5/5
The Car - Arctic Monkeys
Continuing on from the lounge rock sound of Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino, but for me without the same level of tunes. Not to say it's a bad album though.
Best track - There'd Better Be A Mirrorball
3/5
Going to start a #MercuryPrize list, so that I will have heard all of the albums prior to the ceremony. So here goes!
Have been listening to the #mercuryprize short list all day today. Some really great stuff!
Currently rooting for Jockstrap or Lankum.
This year's #MercuryPrize shortlist is pretty damn solid! The Loyle Carner, Ezra Collective and Lankum albums are phenomenal. I do have a real soft spot for the Jessie Ware album as well.
