I've used the a couple more times and it picked up a lot of different birds.

I'm still not entirely sure how accurate it is but here's the list from 2 walks:

Blue Jay
House Sparrow
Chipping Sparrow
Ceder Waxwing
Northern Flicker
Northern Cardinal
Morning Dove
Red-Bellied Woodpecker
European Starling
House Finch
Song Sparrow
American Robin
White Breasted Nuthatch
Black-Capped Chickadee
Eastern Wood-Pewee
Read Tailed Hawk

I installed the for identifying today. In under 2 minutes of Sound ID it found 6 birds around my garden, even with traffic and other noises in the background. 🀩

I confirmed those four birds where I'm very sure that they are correct.

It can play back the parts of the that are from a certain bird, so that I can maybe learn the sounds myself. :masto_reading:

The only thing that's a bit annoying is that it displays the bird names in English. The whole app and the description texts of the birds (from ) are in German, just the names of the birds (kind of the core thing here) are in English.

Now I just need something that identifies insects and spiders for me.

I know that these are some of the most common, boring birds available, but hey, we're in a large city here and it was just the first short test! πŸ™οΈ πŸ˜οΈπŸ¦πŸ¦†πŸ¦’πŸ¦…πŸ¦–

Currently obsessed with Merlin Bird ID app, identifying birds in my garden by their song. Amazingly sensitive & accurate (based on the limited songs I know). This is Machine Learning I can get behind! πŸ¦β€β¬›πŸ¦‰πŸ¦…

Lots of birds on my morning walk today, Merlin detected 19 and there's another 6 that I saw, but that refused to sing. One red list species too.
That was roughly here: maps.app.goo.gl/ZorD4FJL7FrcSB

I've boosted that in case someone else knows.

I wouldn't know.
I have no connection with Cornell, their Merlin or Google, (other than via WiFi or mobile data 😜 )
There does seem to be a "contact us" option on the site I posted (top right-hand side)

@manisitdas
I like that you've created an appropriately specific Merlin Bird app hashtag.

For those who live in urban areas in continental North America, and probably valid for many other urban areas worldwide, birds are still our most accessible wildlife. I started recording briefly on my Merlin Bird app this spring morning, and it picked up eight species! Live very close to a large water body, which may explain the Heron (flying by).
