Been trying to explain to this dude on Reddit that yes in fact #Amazon *does* have a strong incentive to support the new #ASCON lightweight encryption protocols selected by #NIST in its #sidewalk #meshnetwork for #IoT devices. Because they may or may not care about providing secure IoT gizmos to the likes of you and me, but they *do* care about selling IoT services to #federal #government agencies. 1/?

Cooking up some grant applications to do some #meshnetwork stuff along with #dweb and #p2p publishing onto local networks.

Longer term planning to deploy education materials as part of the setup so that communities can create #localfirst software without needing to rely on the cloud or even local servers so much.

One thing that's a TODO is figuring out how the economics of maintaining things work for places where that's a concern.

Looking into setting up a #MeshNetwork with my existing router, so I'm thinking having a mesh AP set up through one of the wired port from my router, and then have that mesh router split into multiple APs, does this make sense to y'all #HomeNetworking overlords?

One reason I want to create an @agregore OS based on Chrome OS is that there's loads of #ChromeBook e-waste that could be repurposed into #p2p #meshnetwork nodes.

They're probably cheaper to get a hold of than other computers since there's so many being flooded as schools buy and get rid of them.

Adding p2p mesh stuff and de-googling them somewhat would be useful to bring utility to folks with less means or in situations where always-on internet just isn't viable.

My dream is to make a large #MeshNetwork of solar powered #weather stations that all feed data to something like #OpenWeatherMap

It feels like it would be so easy to put together one root module that receives #LORA messages and translates them to API calls, and many worker modules that relay weather data back to it. The band is unlicensed, and should be high bandwidth enough to send some JSON every minute or 5. Batteries keep getting cheaper, and minimal computers do as well

Anyone else have an #Eero #MeshNetwork at home who has set up some sort of #OpenVPN or other #VPN where all of their home network traffic goes through a VPN of some sort? I might be ready to set something like this up.
