I'm excited about this configuration because it can bolt on to any network with ease. Just plug a gateway mesh node into another network and voilá, everyone on the mesh is good to go.

What I'm really interested in seeing is what happens when there are multiple gateways. It should just connect each node to a gateway and work without issue.

What about roaming? Can I talk to other subnets on the mesh that I am not on? So much testing to do! #MeshNetworking #FunADay starts earlg.

I keep wanting to replace my Google Wi-Fi mesh network with something newer and with a web-based UI with more options instead of a mobile app.

We have six of the Google nodes throughout the house (3 downstairs, 3 upstairs) and I make liberal use of the Ethernet ports.

From what we know, #MeshNetworking is lowerLevel than #I2P and requires specialist #hardware.

It is designed to work like a distributed #HAMRadio network.

I2P has been used for many years and is a good path to go down. In order to make I2P truely #uncensorable all we need to do is build the network, tell more people about it. When we depend on it (and on #Tor of course) for our livelihoods then govts cannot attack it with impunity (if they are doing that now).

If I can figure out a reliable long range mesh networking solution that can be deployed for less than $50/node and works with commodity hardware and linux, I could bootstrap a community message board or a community wide intranet.

I feel like I'm having this conversation every three weeks, but I'm actually in a position to act on it now.

So let's talk about #meshnetworking and #mbbs and #alternet internet replacement ideas.

What hardware exists right now? What software? (I'll thread some.)

We're supporters of #meshNetworking (for #bitcoin/#crypto) combined with #fibreToTheHome and even #satelliteTransmission. So we are not afraid of radiation, but the standards are a concern to us without proper #publicDiscourse. Also who controls the #broadcasting systems? An accountable govt or private interests?
