The first version of their #MetalAPI was available to #iOS developers nine months before and shipped with #IOS8 six months before #Vulkan was even announced.
#OpenGL 4.1 on #macOS and #OpenGLES 3.0 on iOS and #iPadOS are still available but were deprecated in favor of #Metal five years ago.
I think itโs less a matter of keeping up and more about not wanting to wait.

Seems like from 2016 until today it remains true in that most #MetalAPI resources by Apple still seem to implicitly or explicitly assume familiarity with openGL or another graphics API. Does Apple not want graphics beginners to learn Metal as their first graphics API?
