This is 'crumple' origami. Used a lot by French origamists 'Le CRIMP'.

Thin, crisp paper (here tracing paper) is folded and then crushed. The process allows the paper to be shaped into flexible, organic forms.

This paper was coated in cyanotype. The form I made was exposed in the sun for 10 minutes, and developed.

If I hadn't put my fingers through the wet paper it would be good!

This is the 'Spreading Hexagons' tessellation, by Eric Gjerde.

I folded it from 200gsm watercolour paper coated with cyanotype chemicals.

It sat outside almost five days.

Long exposure pushes cyanotype blue into a golden-greenish blue instead.

I like how the edges of the folds have described a multiplicity of hexagons.

Origami is cool.

Sometimes you make things for sheer curiosity.

I've been trying tessellated origami forms for a while. This one is appealing as it is easy to fold and fun to play with.

I folded it from a sheet of watercolour paper coated with cyanotype.

It went outside for a day or so.

When developed, it looked like the final picture.

So now I know. Curiosity sated. Until next time.

Took the 30-unit modular origami apart and developed all the pieces into 30 similar but unique images.

30 objects which had exactly the same preparation, exactly the same form, became part of the same 'community' in the same place for the same time.

And yet, each perception differs slightly, each memory is the consequence of individual experience within that group.

But now, what?

30 Views of a June Day - work in progress.

Cyanotype-coated watercolour paper made 30 'turtle' units for this model.

It was left outside for 24 hours. It's now going to be developed and... possibly collaged or reconstructed.

Exploring ideas about how we each have unique memories of a shared experience. Variables, in this case, include our point of view and our interactions with others.

The other two metamorphograms, now finished.

First was an argonaut, second a segmented shell, both designs by Japanese origami artist

I have plans for them, exploring the philosophical idea of vicarious memories. I.e. when we 'remember' our parent's early life, because they repeatedly told us about it.

The metamorphograms from a little while ago are done. They were exposed for about 4 days.

This one was the maple leaf. There are at least four distinct layers in shades of blue.

My poor folding of the stalk of the leaf is shown in all it's chaotic glory!

@Armavica That's a great model.
I made a version a few years ago, from cyanotype-coated paper.
When opened, after several weeks, this is what it looked like...

Started some (cyanotype mixed with origami) images.

Folded from archival tissue paper, which results in poor origami, but the image will be what I need.

Maple leaf, by Peter Engel. Argonaut and Flat Shell w/10 segments by Tomoko Fuse.

Exposing for... a while... in a contact frame.

Ably assisted by Border Collie.

I posted how I'm struggling to fold some origami models of complex polyhedra.

I have an idea which involved folding them from tracing paper.

I've folded them before, using 200gsm watercolour paper.

When that paper is coated with cyanotype before folding, you can get a metamorphogram.

Here's John Montroll's 'Gamma Star' during exposure, and as a final image.

The Bascetta Star is one of my favourite origami models.

To make it you fold 30 identical units and join them together.

I made one from cyanotype coated paper, and left it as a star for a while (days or weeks).

Then I took it apart and developed each piece.

Here is a composite of all 30 cyanotypes generated by being a Bascetta star for a while.

Making a sort of cyanotype that equates to memory let me treat each image as an individual.

I've used these ones (which were origami cranes) to explore how we can share our individual memories to create social and cultural structures.

Through shared experience, shared memory, we connect with others.

We can influence these shared memories.

They in turn influence our personal memories.

'Sociobiographic memory' perhaps.

A transformation in cyanotype.

It begins as a very simple origami box with a couple of coins in it.

And end up as an abstract geometric image.

A memory of it's brief time as a coin box, written there in blue and white.

Occasionally I don't use the sun as a UV source for cyanotypes.

This is what happens if you place an UV LED torch on cyanotype paper and turn it on for a few seconds.

Each of the LEDs in the torch makes an individual spot.

Combine it with origami and you can get some interesting patterns. This final image started as a Fujimoto Cube, folded from a single sheet of watercolour paper.

'Cliques & Networks'

Some of my >750 orizuru images have been made into other works.

The main (dotty) picture is made from 81 individuals.

Experiences and memories make each of us unique (like orizuru).

We build connections with others through shared social, cultural and autobiographical memories.

We see the orizuru create local 'cliques' (dots) and extended 'networks' (lines), where their different memories interact.

I've used the metamorphogram process (crossing cyanotype with origami) for all sorts of things.

This one was inspired by a Basho haiku. The translation is by R.H. Blyth, who is one of my favourite authors. His books collating haiku are without parallel.

I folded paper into an origami leaf. It lived in that shape for about a week before it's memories were revealed.

Imagine a piece of tissue paper.

Coat it with cyanotype chemicals.

Fold it into an origami crane.

Let it be a crane for a while, in any place with a bit of light. Ignore it, play with it, whatever.

After a while, unfold it. Develop.

You'll get an image.

The image is the memory of it's experience as an origami crane.

Repeat. Every crane's experience - and hence every image - will be unique.

Here's 4 out of the >750 I've made so far.

In the paper I argue - using Barthes' Camera Lucida' as example - that traditional photographs are NOT memories.

But I developed a new process in cyanotype which DID fit the definition of a memory.

This is a metamorphogram - a combination of origami and cyanotype, which "takes a picture of itself".

It's a memory of it's experience when it was the origami form.
