You’ll hear that California's never been hit by a .

NOT TRUE! In 2019, I spoke with a scientist who hindcasted an 1858 San Diego storm. Read the tale of "a wind that came along in a perfect hurricane, tearing down houses and everything that was in its way.”

And yes, it'll happen again, someday.

Hmm., any professional want to comment on how to tell if this data is valid (pointed out by a popular, young, undergrad student weather poster over on the other site) -- heat index of 158F (93F and 89% RH) - in weather.gov/wrh/timeseries?sit

Polish should drink less. When I see a forecast that says it’s gonna be raining around 11am I do not expect the to start immediately after I go at 6am… Or am I just a magnet?🤡

Question for the meteorologists:

I’m in a town nestled into the Rockies. Town is at ~1000 m altitude, and the surrounding mountains are all around 2000, maybe 2500 m.
Is there any point to looking at weather radar? The Environment Canada map suggests the area is covered, but I wonder if my situation would put me in a shadow zone for the radar.

Looking out the window is always good for short-term forecasts, but I’m trying to plan an hour walk with the doggie 😊

in could send temps toward 120 in

Temperatures already well into the triple digits across the Southwest are forecast to rise even higher as a heat dome intensifies over the region. An excessive heat warning is in effect for the Phoenix area.

By Alex Sosnowski, AccuWeather senior meteorologist, Published Jul 5, 2023

"A new surge of heat in the southwestern United States will push temperatures to higher levels than experienced so far this summer and perhaps within a few degrees of all-time record levels in some locations. The extreme heat will pose dangers even for long-term residents who are used to extremely hot summers. And as the brush continues to dry out in the sweltering heat, the risk of wildfires will grow.

"AccuWeather are particularly concerned about the intensity and duration of the heat in the coming days and weeks. They also note that temperatures will remain quite high during the nighttime hours.

"Temperatures in many cities could approach all-time highs.

" has hit its all-time record high of 117 five times over the years, with the most recent occurrence being on July 10, 2021. Temperatures are likely to reach the mid-110s on multiple days this week and potentially could add another day to the all-time list. So far this summer, Sin City has maxed out at 112 on July 3 but did not have its first triple-digit temperature of the summer until June 30, which set a record for consecutive days in which high temperatures remained 100.

" is another location that will experience multiple days with highs of 100 or greater thanks to the searing heat on the way. 's capital city hit 101 on July 3, which was its high mark for the year so far. However, temperatures may top this mark on one or more occasions from Sunday to Wednesday. The all-time record high for Salt Lake City of 107 was set on July 17, 2022.

", , has had temperatures in the low 120s multiple times over the years, with the all-time high of 125 set on July 28, 1995. The desert city did not hit the 120-degree mark last year but did so each month in June, July and August of 2021. On Thursday, a high of 119 F is forecast for the city."

You guys.

The next gen of is here and I'm totally on board.

My college kid told me about a couple of you-tubers he follows for weather events.

Ryan Hall Y'all
and
Andy Hill Meteorologist

Go check them out. They're good! They live stream big weather events and offer plenty of info along the way.

It makes me happy to see that the kids are alright.

(And I know that they are adults-just kids to me though)

Any like to comment on what the rain radar is picking up here? It fades in and out but doesn't move. Instrument artefact?
