The #MachineLearning algorithm that distinguishes #meteors from #airplanes #satellites #birds etc. was initially developed by Fiachra Feehilly from DCU for his BSc final-year project with @jmackey @diasdunsink @diasastronomy.
It is very effective!
The project was enabled by the huge training dataset put together by volunteers in the #globalmeteornetwork and @meteordoc, going through each detection by hand to identify false positives and true meteors.

IMMERSIVE PERSEID NIGHT: You can count over 150 shower #meteors on the mosaic of the Perseids captured above the Seč Lake, Czech Republic. Thanks to relatively dark sky, it is also possible to see dim meteors, but also the extremely bright ones.

Highlights of the Perseids meteor shower this weekend. There is still time to view the meteors for the next night or before they fade away. Some of the meteors I saw were brilliant and left long distant trails. Best viewing time in my experience is shortly after the sky turns inky black through 2am. Look toward the NE and 1/2 way up to the overhead skies.
