I'm not staying up late. I never do that.
Not even going outside to look at the sky (though I sometimes do that).
But I am leaving WSJT-x on overnight on MSK144 on 6m just to see if anything decodes by morning.
G'nite, nerds.

@zazzoo It's not a facet of the hobby I have played with yet! (There is so much stuff to play with in this hobby) Basically meteor comes in started burning up and leaves an ionized trail that radio waves will bounce off of. The duration can be very short but it's long enough with the right computer program and equipment. (Yes we are in the 21st century now, no refrigerator sized stuff in my shack!)

That reminds me... #Perseids max is on around 12-13 August which is conveniently this weekend.
Anyone trying #2m to #6m for #MeteorScatter?

Arietids – most active daytime meteor shower – peaks June 7, 2023
The Arietids have a strong zenithal hourly rate (ZHR)! Meteor counts with radar and radio echoes have indicated a rate of 60 meteors per hour, and perhaps as high as 200 meteors per hour.

The meteor shower Quadrantids is peaking this nigth aroud 0230.

The web site is
"The meteor detector at LIVEMETEORS.com is located in DC Metropolitan area and is currently pointing the Yagi antenna at a TV tower in Canada broadcasting on channel 2 analog TV, around 55.24 MHz, or based on availability and propagation on channel 3 analog TV, around 61.260 MHz, likely located in Timmins, ON. Receiver is RTL/SDR and software is SDR#."
(My connection is choppy.)
Anyone have good plans for tuning in to meteor scatter activity? #Leonids tonight.
Here is a paper on MSK144 de #k9an #k1jt

"Here’s a full description of the modulation, message structure, channel coding, and special operational features of the new meteor-scatter mode implemented in WSJT-X."
