Separate #ContemporaryServices divided the church in two. The contemporary service brought in a younger, less #Methodist crowd ... and few churches provided any means of anchoring them in the traditions of #Methodism.
Result: fundamentalists, Methodist in name only, craving a return to fundamentalism. UMC should have fused traditional and contemporary trends together: evolution over division.

They claim I've used the Sunday School class to "promote the gay lifestyle" because I occasionally refer to "my husband."
When straight people refer to spouses, it's nothing. When I do, it's "advancing the gay agenda."

The motto "In essentials unity, in non-essentials liberty, and in all things love" is very known. It was not created by Wesley (I think it comes from the Moravians) but is a good resume for this sermon.
