Really interesting decision from the Superior Court of re: status claims by the Communauté Autochtone de Maniwaki. Of particular interest is the court's reliance on of various stripes (esp. Rousseau, Inksetter, and Goudreau) to find for a cultural vs a genealogical definition of "Métis". scholars and activists have been arguing along these lines for years, while the courts have generally relied on a race-based definition. @histodons

I love books about witches. Cherie Dimaline's VenCo is one of the best I've read in a long time. A Métis witch, found family, LGBTQ+ rep & hexing the patriarchy? What's not to love?

I'm putting together an annotated bibliography on how to respectfully engage with marginalized populations in public health research. I'm particularly interested in learning how to approach populations who self-identify as , , , and/or . If any worthwhile resources spring to mind, I'd be grateful if you could point me at them.

Years ago, I had a moment of clarity.

Business information systems are composed of three kinds of things: entities, processes, and rules.

Processes are the verbs — the actions that operate on and orchestrate the interactions of business entities.

Today in Labor History March 19, 1885: Louis Riel declared a provisional government in Saskatchewan, marking the start of the North-West Rebellion. At the same time the Métis people rose up against the Canadian government, there was an associated uprising by First Nations Cree and Assiniboine. However, Riel’s movement had a heavily religious tone that alienated most Indigenous tribes, as well as some Métis. Nevertheless, he had the allegiance of 200 armed Métis, a few other Indigenous warriors, and at least one white man. About 91 people died in the fighting that occurred that spring before the rebellion collapsed.
