A #wellington #nz #travel tip.
Prices on #metlink go up on 1 Sept, but you can still save by buying a #snapper pass.
My daily train fare is going up from $2.76 each way (5 zones) to $5.52.
A 30 day pass is increasing from to $82.80 to $165.60(!)
Assuming I travel in to the office 3 days per week / 12 times in Sept, that’s $132.48 at the new fare rate (paying per trip). A 30 day pass, bought and activated before 1 Sept will save me $49.68. Not bad.

Another morning, another bus coming 2+ minutes early this time the 56 from Jville to the CBD. So another 20 minute wait or going back home.
I complained several times already and got 'Oh, so sorry, we remind the drivers not to leave early '. Clearly doesn't work. Maybe I order a taxi or Uber and invoice Metlink?
#Wellington bus notice: Problem with ramps mean some buses won't take wheelchairs until ramps are replaced. Issue was reported in Disabled Persons' group by user who encountered this yesterday. A ramp broke and now Metlink or operators are checking and replacing ramps as quick as they can. If a bus cannot take you, ask #Metlink Wellington for help. Either ask bus driver to call Metlink or call them 0800 801 700. Or call Manager Ken Pearson on 021 765 165
Hey #kapiti line people. Looks like the trains are all cancelled to Wellington. ALL OF THEM. This seems to be all week. Can anyone explain wtf is going on? Nothing on the news websites #trains #metlink #wellington

Weirdly mesmerising to watch...

I've also finally updated my real-time position map to show delays again.
- Green - on time
- Yellow >= 1 min delay
- Orange >= 5 min delay
- Red >= 10 min delay

Oh dear - cautiously waiting to see how metlinkwgtn's timetables return to normal next month - it appears as we return to normal timetables, we return to normal number of cancellations too.
Hopefully things will improve over coming weeks 🤞

Nice! KPL just coasted through Tunnel #1 pantograph down because of an “obstruction” on the power line. Great piloting!
I reckon a majority of train commuters in Wellington (Kāpiti line) are now using Snapper cards instead of the old paper tickets. Slowly, slowly into the 21st Century.
(Based entirely on my own unreliable observations.)

Today, I went on the inaugural Snapper-enabled Hutt Valley Line service departing Wellington. Very glad to say “ten trip” is no longer part of my vocabulary. #Wellingtonnz #metlink
My rough estimate is that no more than 10% of passengers on the Kapiti line are using Snapper cards to pay their fare. Most of those who aren’t seem to be using the popular monthly pass, which they would have bought in October to use in November. So, it’s too early to judge the success of Snapper yet.
It’s going to be a very different story on 1 December. I’m sure there will be big queues at the machines on the platforms to tag on and off.

one bus in an hour, on a route that’s scheduled for every ten minutes. #metlink #wellington has to do better if #PublicTransport is to be taken seriously. #LGWM

Half length train in the JVL line at rush hour. A good day to be wearing a decent mask. #wellington #metlink
I doubt this will come as a surprise to anyone who uses #Metlink public transport services in #Wellington and #Porirua, but about a month ago, I noticed that, at 393 cancellations, there had been more cancellations in a single day than at any point in the past 18 months since I had started recording cancellations.
In the 3 1/2 weeks since then, the average number of cancellations for weekdays has been 398 cancellations per day.
@64 @pezmico In Porirua too (well Whitby), hoping to be allowed to cycle again (is my main method of commute) after broken collarbone. Being forced back onto #Metlink bus service has been completely unusable and a major struggle, and I’ve had to be driven in over 50% of the time due to cancelled buses in order to get to office in Porirua. At least the trip home is usually not cancelled.
I traveled all the way to work - train and bus - on a single travel card this morning without a hitch. Wellington public transport has finally caught up with how hundreds of other cities have operated for years. About time! #PublicTransport #MetLink
Today’s question: will the Snapper travel card system cope with being used by commuters on all the train lines from the weekend? And how loner will it take us to tag off and get off the platform at Wellington?
However, by the look of the number of people still using a paper ticket, Snapper probably won’t be overwhelmed for a while.
Metlink : You wanna get to work for normal working day?
Me: Yes please
Metlink: FuCk yOu! #buswanker
