As the opera season is ending in NYC, I remember attended the following performances of :
Idomeneo
Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk
Peter Grimes
Fedora
Lohengrin
L’Elisir d’Amore
Champion
Die Zauberflote
Der Fliegende Hollander
And in theater The hours

My two favorite performances were Fedora and L’Elisir d’Amore, the quality production was matched with a excellent cast, conductor and Orchestra.
My two least favorite (to avoid being negative : Champion and the Hours).

A fabulous Hollander : Thomasz Konieczny !!!
J’adore! He has everything : his singing and stage presence are so impactful. Though a dreadful production (but not as bad as Lohengrin from the same Francois Girard), the bass baritone brought the house down! Performance of 06/07. #MetFliegendeHollander #metopera #opera

A strong cast for this performance (06/07). Production is again risible and ridiculous.
Konieczny, Belosselkskiy, Van Den Heever, Cutler are all excellent!
But I was very disappointed by the conductor Thomas Guggeis, very elegant but not bringing much dynamic to the music.

I enjoyed Zauberflöte at the Met but…. 
Many voices did not have the required format (Pamina) for the role, or were just average (Papageno, Sarastro). 
The production is efficient but eludes completely the darkness of the opera. The orchestra was on a day off (no colors, no fire) maybe because the conductor was lacking of energy and dynamics.
Again, the theater was pretty empty and many left after intermission…

@broomsticknpen Have you seen Met Opera's Il Trovatore with Dmitri Hvorostovsky (of course), Dolora Zajick (even more of course), Sondra Radvanovsky and Marcelo Álvarez? Cannot recommend it highly enough.
The plot is difficult and bonkers but the music is 🔥 🔥 🔥 .

About last night.
I was not much impressed by #champion at #metopera . Again this is more of a musical theater than an #opera. Music is rather plain, no climax and no development. This is not for me.

Last Thursday was the Met triumphant Debut of #XabierAnduaga in l’Elisir D’Amore. His co-star was Aleksandra Kurzak. It was a fabulous night of pure Bel Canto.
