Frida Kahlo (1907-1954)

“Kahlo had a few spider monkeys that she kept as pets. She named the one in the painting Fulang-Chang. The artist might have painted the pink ribbon connecting them to show how close she felt to her monkey. What animal would you want to show in a painting? How would you show how you feel about that animal?”

"Nude with Calla Lilies" (1944) by celebrated painter Diego Rivera. The story goes that Rivera's model, Nieves Orozco, was pregnant when the artist invited her to pose for him and that would be the reason why he only showed her back in the painting. This masterwork is now in private hands.
