Ok #SelectiaNatională hat mich mit der Werbung schon verloren. Ab zum #mgp2023
Reiley -- Breaking My Heart
Modern, snappy, catchy song which is probably the best choice for Denmark, even if it sounds like a CHVRCHES rip-off. Don't get me wrong, I like "Beautiful Bullshit" and "Stuck on You" more, but this is a strong third in my personal ranking, and given that the semis are 100% audience vote, this would be well-placed to qualify to the final.

Søren Torpegaard Lund -- Lige her
Normally I'm not keen on songs that come with a heavy dose of nostalgia, but I have to give it to Lund for doing it in such a classy way, updating the sounds while retaining the atmosphere of something from yesteryear. It's still not my favourite on this list, but respect for the way this was executed.

Mariyah LeBerg -- Human
Something's very familiar about this tune, I can't quite work it out. It has a bit of a happy-clappy vibe which apparently I'm not in the mood for this year because it reminds me too much of "Love is Forever" from 2019, one of my least favourite Danish entries of recent years.

Nicklas Sonne -- Freedom
Sure, a rock number is always welcome in a national selection, if only to spice things up a bit. This just isn't a particularly good example of what the genre can do.

Maia Maia -- Beautiful Bullshit
Yes, this is Scandipop by numbers, I know. Its strengths are arguably also its weaknesses. But in a national final season that has felt quite beige at times thus far, this is a breath of fresh air in comparison, no matter how dated the song might be.

Micky Skeel -- Glansbillede
Amiable middle-of-the-road track that ticks the boxes for a pleasant pop song but little more than that.

Eyjaa -- I Was Gonna Marry Him
When I saw the title of this song I rolled my eyes, because I feared I could see where this was going. Unfortunately, I was proved right: sad and sappy, with a very obvious key change. Apparently the pan flute is in fashion this year? And whistling as well? No thanks.

Frederik Leopold -- Stuck on You
While I won't pretend that this is anywhere near the most original song around, it is a huge dose of catchy fun and I am so here for it. The keyboards and great, the backing vocals simple but effective, and Leopold holds it all together competently. I hope he can do the same live on stage.

The #EuroVision :eurovision2022: song that Norway has picked is terrible. Especially when they could’ve picked that freak JONE who answered the question “What if K-pop was Norwegian and only had €100 to make a music video?”

Some #MGP2023 thoughts:
🇳🇴 Kate Gulbrandsen should be in the final, without question
🇳🇴 Ulrikke is *incredible*; her song and performance deserve to win
🇳🇴 But I would be happy with Eline Thorp or Atle Pettersen
🇳🇴 Unami Tsunami is a bloody great name for a group

Atle Pettersen – Masterpiece
This moves about a fair bit, even for a power ballad, but ultimately this relies very strongly on Pettersen’s vocal talent, because the rest of the song isn’t anything that grabs me.
Maria Celin – Freya
As the song washed over me I thought it had some potential, but the more I dug, the less substance I found. The lyrics are incomprehensible at times – it’s like Celin tries to overcome this weakness with big beats and a chorus that keeps everything as simple as possible. It might work enough to get to the final, but surely not beyond that.
Stig van Eijk -- Someday
Is that a child singing at the beginning? I imagine this won’t be allowed at the contest, right? From there the song heads into reggae territory – normally I would have some time for this, but children return as backing vocals and at the end, and this puts me off. This isn’t JESC.
Eline Thorp -- Not Meant to Be
Stormy and dramatic pop, which I enjoy for the most part – the spoken word section lets the song down though. Thorp’s clearly not a rapper, so she shouldn’t have tried. I can hear some echoes of Elsie Bay’s entry from last year.
Skrellex -- Love Again
An example of a straightforward dance track which pop up in many Eurovision national selections each year. There’s certainly an audience for this, and I’m sure it will end up on a bunch of playlists, but this approach to songwriting is dated and therefore unlikely to go anywhere.
Tiril -- Break It
This has the classic three-part structure in which a song builds up from a simple arrangement. I like her voice, but the instrumentation becomes a bit too mushy in the last minute. Still, one of my favourites from this selection.
