Leto is in grim terror as she bolts. One hand up in helplessness. Infant Apollo and girl Artemis turn to fight the predatory Python emerging from his cave. The votive fragment is from the 5th century BCE. I felt emotion with this image. I felt Leto's vulnerability, a refugee, a single mother. I felt exultant hope in the bravery of Artemis and Apollo. I wonder about the donors of this image and what other stories the artist knew.
