How much do we know about the #lung toxicity of lunar dust? A nice #spacemedicine review in nature #micogravity by Pohlen et al. summarizes our current knowledge. [1] But why be concerned first place? On Earth, inhaled dusts less than <10 µm can penetrate deeply into the lung and reach the alveolus. [2] There they can persist due to poor bioclearance. Some dusts lead to chronic inflammation, possibly via free radical damage, which can lead to interstitial lung disease / pneumoconiosis.
