Low #blueberry bushes (Vaccinium myrtillus) on the top side of a hill, massively exposed to weather and cold wind.

Only a few metres down on the west side of the hill: the same kind of plant, much progressed in vegetation process.

Does local temperature in summer decrease when mayors ban cars from large swathes of city centres? Does it measurably help during heatwaves?
How to test?
Paris changed some car access between the first lethal heatwave 2003 and 2022. Don't know when and where, exactly, tho. So that'd be a city to look for summer ºC data, diurnal difference especially, as close as possible to where car access changed.

Our approach relies on two simple parameters: the slope captures the linear relationship between #microclimate and macroclimate, while the equilibrium is the point at which micro = macroclimate!
A slope < 1 means the microclimate temperature is buffered compared to macroclimate

So, we want to predict #microclimate from macroclimate, using vegetation / topography drivers.
The usual approach is to model offsets (the difference between T°micro and T°macro), and it works, but with some drawbacks... We argue for an alternative method to model microclimate!

I've experience microclimates here on the #OregonCoast before, but never with cold. Tried to go to the grocery store last night. Roads were wet and ice free when I left. On the way, temp fell 4 degrees F, and the parking lot was a skating rink I barely got out of alive. On the way back, temp went up four degrees and though there was a little ice on my hill, no problems getting up. Total distance traveled? 2.6 miles!
