My friend Jon came over last night and we talked and messed with my guitar pedal chain and went out to dinner and then messed with his #Arturia #MiniFreak (we are both #MicroFreak owners as well) and yeah, that could turn out to be an expensive visit in the long run.

Older son was absolutely enthralled with it. So at the least I will set up my MicroFreak for him to mess with. As I've been focusing more on bass things, I've not had it out lately.

Always fun making glitchy beats out of live-recorded samples. In this case the melody was played on the #MicroFreak then recorded by the #Deluge where I resample it into quick slices to mangle in a kit (short clip from a long set).

This new 5.0 MicroFreak firmware is great so far. Tested it out today by loading a simple Mellotron flute sample then ran it through the new granular Hit Grains oscillator and added some random modulation to make it come alive.

This came up on shuffle just now and I think after two years I can say I really enjoy this and it should be the intro to my album whenever I make it.

Originally made on the #OP-1 with sounds designed on #MicroFreak and some OP-1 presets. Mixed in GarageBand.
I called it Chant because it reminded me of a procession of self-flagellating monks.

Used Mido python library (based on RtMidi) to send the .mid files from my charge controller sonification Jupyter Lab notebook to my #Arturia #Microfreak

Messing around with my #Arturia #MicroFreak and some effects, particularly the #Donner Harmonic Square and the White Tape (delay). But also the EHX fuzz because why not?

The MicroFreak by itself is pretty dry, but you can do some neat things with it. I have made many fun noises but very little in the way of music, so it's kind of on my tentative chopping block to turn into money for something else.

But it's FUN...

I made this arrangement and punched the holes a couple of years ago now, but never put it online. It was reserved exclusively for spontaneous one-to-one Zoom concerts for anyone who might appreciate cheering up.

With a capo'ed bass guitar taking the place of a regular guitar, a very basic Pocket Operator percussion track (imagine if J.J. Cale had access to Pocket Operators in 1972 and you'd be close) and some fake modular synth from a #MicroFreak patch I made a year and a half ago, it's not country as most people would know it, but the country feel is there.
By the way, I will only need about a minute of the final mix depending on how many verses I actually record.
