The empty big-box stores could be repurposed to house batteries or other forms of energy storage.

None of this would require any major changes to existing land uses. Reusing empty buildings that will never have a new tenant would be a great bonus. Good jobs for technicians to run and maintain the #microgrid too.

Imagine if other suburbs did the same thing. No fights with the NIMBY crowd who don't want new solar parks on farmland yet a replacement for fossil fuels.

We need a #microgrid ! Here in Westland it wouldn't be all that difficult to do. Besides the mall which gave the city its name, there are several other shopping centers and big-box stores (some empty) What they all have in common is big parking lots.

We could put #solar panels on elevated steel frames over all these huge lots, a roof if you will, WITHOUT taking away any function or requiring new land to be cleared or agricultural land to be taken out of productive use.
