#MicroGrids are awesome. So glad the NYTimes has done a piece on them.

Smart cities and communities would be figuring out how they can divide their cities into bunches of microgrids as a means of mitigating climate change impacts - starting by building them for their most under privileged areas.

Energy Central: "Microgrid passes storm reliability test." Hurricane Ian struck Florida in 2022, but one community kept power when many of the surrounding areas suffered a grid outage. "Making landfall with hurricane-force winds, storm Ian left 2.2 million local people without power." But in Tampa, 37 homes had a dedicated, utility-owned, residential community microgrid that carried them through until grid reconnection after the storm had passed. "Houses in the Medley at Southshore Bay development are kitted-out with a BlockEnergy BlockBox outside." As you can see in the photo, they have both a renewable energy system—solar arrays on all the houses—coupled with battery backup, with an upgraded version of the equipment available next yr providing EV charging as well. Technology setup is a utility-focused, front-of-the-meter, distributed renewable energy platform for new build communities of all sizes. It is owned, operated and maintained by the local utility. But microgrids may be set up independently + owned by the residents as well. Either way, it's all about resilience, helping communities survive the impacts of heat waves, stronger storms, + grid failures from multiple causes.     #microgrids    #resilience    #climatechange

Just by shedtop #GuerillaPV alone, using easy access to the shed roof, 25% of my household electricity was covered by solar last week. This is in winter alone. This gives me hope #NetZero is achievable now and more effort is needed in the direction of #MicroGrids
