So where is Kalpa right now?

Kalpa remains in a stable, Alpha state, as it has for the past few months.

Things are being worked on, but the project will be in a bit of a holding pattern for at least the short term, as our counterparts on openSUSE develop some of *their* new build processes and installation tools/methods. Aeon currently has a larger pool of regular contributors, but we work from the same base, sometimes that does mean that is going to move a bit slower

@iaintshootinmis since you ask what's people's daily driver I picked . But I also use (formerly desktop), and regularly

my reason for experimenting this feature or wanting this feature to work seamlessly is because of my plans towards using an immutable desktop such as (former gnome desktop) since containers are the *thing* there

@passthejoe yeah, fair. My build machine runs Aeon (née ) since I sometimes want to use it interactively as a gaming machine, and.. it's been reasonable to update (I don't update it *that* often).

I have not tried , but that's precisely an immutable distro based on a stable base - it's more end user oriented, but pretty sure you can install whatever you want on top, especially Distrobox. Worth a spin?

Taking a break from my freelance web work to look into OpenSUSE MicroOS. If I'm reading this correctly, its first-boot config system, Combustion, is pretty damn powerful. With the right set of steps, it could make MicroOS a good option for businesses.

For the minimalist platforms (container/Flatpak host systems like or Fedora and ) I have decided to write a Bash-only pinentry using rofi (I use the version from github.com/lbonn/rofi) for the GUI part.

Its very early alpha version (more like a proof of concept) is on git.sr.ht/~mcepl/pinentry-rofi and I would be very happy if anybody pointed to me problems they have with it and/or even if they suggested some improvements.

I can't decide between or for my Intel NUC server. I only host containers running really , like and . I'm still learning about both OS's really and I know both come with a learning curve, one steeper than the other. But I really can't decide.

Any advice ......?

Considering checking out an distro that uses , like or , because I like the extra security and separation and atomic updates and so on they offer, it's a lot like the stuff I like about , but I'm not sure if they're actually any more secure, since new root OS components can still be installed, it just requires a reboot. Does anyone know?

@NotMtth either vanilla or with Arch running in . Not sure if that's helpful though

Being a (actually but same ...) user these days is ... Conflicting. The distro itself is great. The people at I'm sure are great at their jobs and decent human beings, but the CentOS Stream -> lockdown of RHEL sources -> Fedora telemetry timeline is just, at best, a terrible look all things considered. Had Aeon effectively not been a one (apparently not always very kind too?) man show I'd probably have jumped ship already.

@vwbusguy @dschier Small additions: the non-Desktop is still existing and maintained.

Kubic is deprecated, but had nothing to do with Rancher. It just was not feasible to support the kubicctl way of creating/maintaining clusters anymore AFAIK.

: transactional with full list of packages.
SLE transactional based on SLE with a very limited number of packages.
Leap based on SLE Micro, same limited amount of packages.

@vwbusguy @alecui is nice because you can install it directly, and you get lots of nice details. So not only the partition setup and transactional updates. It is a separate product with patterns and package selections and things like that.

@sfalken @occirol actually it would have been helpful to not have SLE and Leap use just Micro. But too late.

But even now with the renaming, is hard to name correctly. "You know, the one based on Tumbleweed. Not, not the desktop..."
