As a teenager, I studied the Intel 8086 #microprocessor. It was innovative, powerful, fresh. Its modern descendant, the Core i9, is a hot mess, saddled with legacy design.

In college, I learned the C++ #programming language, when it emerged as Cfront. I admired its power and simplicity. Four decades on, I cannot countenance the mess that is C++23.

Technical debt is a side-effect of progress. At some point, we should freeze good, old designs, and start anew, capitalising on lessons learned.
