I resent that my interest in microprocessors has finally pushed me to be interested in coding. I mean it sounds silly probably. But it's true. Hated coding. Never got my college degree in part because I hated coding. And that was an engineering degree! But it's kinda everywhere, isn't it? Even as a Network Admin, I could benefit from scripting and outright coding. So I'm gonna be working on that. But as to the microprocessors, there are lots of cool pre-built frameworks that just do stuff when you hook up things to a microprocessor. Sensors. Lights. Stuff. Really easy straight-forward stuff. But if I want it to do the things I want it to do, I gotta figure out how to code it. Or gotta figure out how to tear apart someone else's code that isn't doing what I want, and making it do what I want instead. And of course paying it forward with credit.

So guess I'm falling down that rabbit hole now...

Having never tinkered with 6502s, I figured no time like the present. There are several good HDL implementations available, last night I compared the Finitron 'bc6502' to the OpenCores 'cpu6502_true_cycle'. I 'built' a simple SBC with the CPU, ROM, RAM and a serial port, ported Enhanced 6502 BASIC. Built with Vivado, running on a Digilent Arty S7-50. Both cores ran fine at 25MHz 1/ #6502 #microprocessors #vintage

It occurred to us that we never did an #introduction - and we've been here a whole 24 hours. We're #RaspberryPi. We're from #Cambridge, UK, where we design and make tiny #computers and #microprocessors. We've sold more than 50 million of our computers in the last ten years: you'll find them everywhere from hackspaces and schools to the #ISS, tracking penguins on glaciers and automating factories.

So far we're really liking it here.

I think one of the attractions of #microprocessors is that the instruction sets are easy and fun to learn. I enjoyed learning the #PDP-11 instruction set when I was figuring out old #unix history stuff and I quite like the #z80 instruction set although it gets a bit complicated in some areas. At least its not as bloated as the #Vax instruction set, I keep meaning to learn it but I lose the will 😆
