Today the #midges, that left me alone all last night (miracle!) staged a stealth raid by getting inside my t-shirt and biting the shit out of me this evening.
Fucking evil tiny bastards.

I look like a dot-to-dot drawing.

Nematoceran fly —aka mosquito or midge-like— sipping nectar, its head and paintbrush antennae (the size alone labels it as male: their purpose is to locate females) bobbing up and down as if listening to heavy metal. Wish I recorded a video.

Faintest idea what species this is, I have not.

We're leaving #Scotland today after a short stop in #fringe-ing #Edinburgh!
We've loved it, apart from 3 pests:
- #midges. A known one, but see photo below....
- #ticks. We learned that they are super common, carrying pathogens less often than on the continent, but still it's annoying to have to scan for and remove a dozen of tiny ones after some short walk even on a path.
- #cars on main roads when #cycling.

Mystery midget: #iNaturalist auto-suggestion didn’t even guess the insect order correctly. Holds itself like a mosquito, but only measures about 2.5 mm. Found on a pebble beach by a white pine tree secondary forest.

Im Westen #Schottland's können die #Midges, so Art winzige Stechfliegen, abends sehr unangenehm sein. Sollte einen aber nicht von der großartigen Landschaft abhalten.
Deren Anzahl scheint stark von der Nähe zu stehenden Gewässern abzuhängen.
Insektenspray hilft, durch normale Mückengitter beim Zelt schlüpfen sie durch.
Es gibt engmaschigere Gitter und auch engmaschiges fürs Gesicht, hab ich aber beides nicht ausprobiert.

Anyone in need of a walk-in for a horror film at the moment? I could fill in easily, no make-up required. The spot where I camped last night was #midges galore. I've got at least 20 new bites, most of them in my face. They like attacking the skin around my eyes. My face is all puffy now and I'm squinting through swollen eyelids.

It's raining and I crawled out of my tent for a quick pee. Now I've got twelve new #midges bites. :mastoface_with_rolling_eyes:
Luckily my bite healer that uses heat is working perfectly. I hope I won't run out of battery soon. They'll last for only about 300 bites.
