I haven't been feeling inclined to post as much about #MagicTheGathering lately, but that's just who I am: a skeptical and never-fully-engaged participant in social media.

That being said, I was pleased to draft an absolute beast of a deck for #MidweekMagic this week - BW tokens with 2 (!) Aron, Benalia's Ruin, 2 Resolute Reinforcements, 2 Captain's Call, and so on. One copy of Golden Argosy was icing on the cake, letting me recur my Resolute Reinforcements, etc. for tokens to sacrifice to Aron. Went 3-0, all by concession. I don't think I've ever drafted such a tight and synergistic deck before... too bad it wasn't a ranked draft this time!

The next couple of #MidweekMagic events on #MTGArena are somewhat boring:

July 25–27: Dominaria United Bot Draft
August 1–3: Alchemy
August 8–10: Slow Start

Built an absolute brute of a #MagicLTR #Rakdos deck for #MidweekMagic and went 3-0, which was pretty fun. As expected, Spiteful Banditry was a total bomb, though I only got to use it once. Also had a great moment in a different game where I exiled Gollum's Bite from my graveyard to make a 2/3 my ringbearer, then swung for lethal 2 through a mirror match's 4/4 Orc Army and that big 6/5 ogre. A good close game with a fairly-matched opponent; my favorite kind. #MTGArena #MagicTheGathering

Somehow I totally missed that there is a "Starter Deck Duel" event on #MTGArena. It has no entry fee and the same rewards like #MidweekMagic: three wins for two rares and one cosmetic.
And you get to play one out of ten preconstructed two-color starterdecks. Play and switch decks as much as you like. Sounds nice 😀

This week's #MidweekMagic is Historic Pauper, very nice! 😀

I didn't bother to count the winrate after I adjusted the deck a bit. With the modifications it was a bit more fun but still not strong enough for most of the other decks.

These were the changes:
Ascendant Packleader and Lion Sash are out because there's too much that deals 1 damage or gives -1/-1 and they died very often before I could pump them.
Hopeful Initiate was added because it has 2 toughness and makes use of counters.
Likewise, Tenacious Pup has 2 toughness and buffs the next creature that I cast (among others a +1/+1 counter).
Armored Scrapgoger is in as ramp and blocker as previous games often had mana problems, either not enough of one color or too many expensive creatures I couldn't cast.
Added Ossification because the deck lacks removal. It was especially frustrating in one game in the morning where I couldn't get rid of and subsequently lost to a Brash Taunter.
Took out the Tribute to the World Tree as I had it in hand so many times but not the necessary GGG to cast it.
And finally I replaced Vorinclex with Autonomous Assembler because it's colorless/doesn't require GG, can be cast via Prototype early and also generates +1/+1 counters.

Here's my #introduction

I joined Mastodon in 2018 with my main account on a general instance with no focus on a single topic, so this is my #MagicTheGathering #MTG related alt-account. My main account also has some Magic content (in German and tagged #mtgde), too.

My times playing paper magic were from end of 1994 (Fallen Empires) to 1998 (Stronghold). I came back to Magic in 2021 (Kaldheim) via #MTGArena and now only play the digital version (but next to no Alchemy, though).
My fav formats are Draft and Standard but I also like some of the options during #MidweekMagic, e.g. Pauper or Artisan.

Besides Magic my interests are pen and paper roleplaying #TTRPG - mainly #Pathfinder (1st edition) and #DungeonCrawlClassics #DCC - as well as #Metal music - mostly #DeathMetal, #ThrashMetal and #IndustrialMetal.

I'm a software developer and for example made a tiny contribution to the 17Lands client to work with non-standard installation folders of #MTGA using Wine on Linux or wrote a Firefox extension to download your collection raw data from 17Lands - which now is useless since the day WotC changed the player's log format to no longer include that data.

#MidWeekMagic on #MTGArena this week is Brawl - not Historic Brawl - just Brawl. :blobcatsad: Not a fan and know nothing about it- but this is all access, so you can try anything without needing the cards. Put this together in 5 minutes just picking an obvious mono colour Commander and quickly selecting likely cards. Three wins in three games so might be worth a punt if you don’t have a Brawl list handy and are looking for one just the get the wins. #MagicTheGathering

Midweek Magic time again on #MTGArena. Standard - not even open access - ugh! Definitely the worst possible IMO. I know nothing about Standard. So the only fun thing is to try to do it with no rares/mythics. Played this mono blue list and got the 3 wins in about 7 games - which I think is not bad for an Artisan Standard deck against an open field. Could be worth trying something along these lines if you are looking for a list without a lot of R/Ms. #MagicTheGathering, #MTG, #MidWeekMagic

Midweek Magic time again on #MTGArena. Phantom Sealed with Brother’s War. It’s both good and bad when MWM is Sealed. Good because you can try a couple of different builds and, unlike actual Sealed, there’s no pressure when you lose. Bad because, if you open a bad pool, it can be a slog getting 3 wins. Quickly stuck together this U/W Soldiers pile and got the 3 wins in 5 games but suspect there may be a better build in there somewhere. #MagicTheGathering, #MTG, #MidWeekMagic, #MWM, #Arena
