It helps this time i was returning to an instance I had previously inhabited, so I didn't have quite as many steps - just cancel the redirect away from here, start a redirect at the old account *to* here, then export my follows, mutes, etc at my old account and import them here.
It takes a minute for everything to sort itself out, but I've learned a lot by doing this a few times.
And now I know how to set *this* account up instead of needing to leave

Had to buy a new laptop for my son today, as the keys on his old Acer started falling off! Of course, old was #Win10. New is #Win11. Now I can say that I have XP with Win11. Considering migrating. Need a well moderated instance that doesn't make excuses not to block known racists (so not Kolektiva) and doesn't bash trans folks for protesting or being too loud. Preferably very left but not the exclusionary kind of anarchist. Having mastodon.social blocked is a huge plus.

Nothing wrong here i just don't mesh with the moderation style. ~Grimm
