During yesterdays walk in Dorf Mecklenburg (when I took those pics of the church there) I went to the #medieval #remains of the #earthworks of the #obotritic #centre of #Weligrad or #Mikelenburg, from which the western part of the State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern derives its name.

Mentioned as "Nakons Castle" by the trader Ibrahim Ibn Jacub in 965, the mass of the slawonic fortress is still impressive.

Today the walls, covered by trees, protect the local graveyard.
