If you have problems with connection via #L2TP/#IPSec #VPN (login to remote ssh not possible, hangs if too much data is presented on screen etc.), check the max MTU and max MRU values - decreasing from 1450 to 1400 resolved problem for me (different #MikroTik routers on both sides).

Friends of #BSDCafe and the #Fediverse, I have a client who's relocating and moving to a different office. I need to set up a simple internal network for them, and the WAN will be a 200Mbit/sec connection. They could repurpose a PCEngines APU (where I'd install OpenBSD or FreeBSD), or I could deploy a small Mikrotik that does everything, including acting as an access point. There won't be any incoming connections since the datacenter is at another location, and I'll connect via Wireguard. I'm leaning towards the first option, but the second is more straightforward and easily replaceable in case of issues. Any advice?

@ifixcoinops I’m surprised nobody has mentioned #MikroTik yet. #RouterOS is every bit as competent as the stuff I found in enterprise-grade gear, back when that was my thing.

I get by with a single HAP in my 1-bedroom flat, so can’t offer firsthand experience on the mesh capabilities - but the popularity of MikroTik gear among small scale WISPs may offer some reassurance.

I'm following every guide I can find, and it seems something is just wrong with IGMP Proxy or I'm missing some firewall rule *or* (just maybe) UDP MULTICAST MIGHT BE THE WORST IDEA FOR IPTV IN 2023.

Homelabbers and Wi-Fi enthusiasts out there; I'm setting up a new iteration of my home network after deprecating my Ubiquiti gear and am currently trying out a #Mikrotik cAP ac which I got along with a new mikrotik poe switch. This far I'm not so impressed with the AP, especially the fact that it's running routerOS and is needlessly complicated to configure.

I've also been eyeing the TP Link Omada series, but can you set them up without a cloud account? I'm strongly against depending on cloud..

I had an old #MikroTik HAP AC Lite sitting around, so I tried putting #OpenWRT on it as an exercise. If I got MikroTik again, I would probably just go with OpenWRT from day 1

I wonder if I can get a #Mikrotik hAP ax2 to acquire wifi signal, then use that signal as the internet port, then have my LAN working as usual; so basically using a router but through wifi instead of cable to the ISP modem

And the trick to get a Mikrotik DHCP server to use a IP address for Option 66 is s'192.168.1.100'
