After dinner I asked the kids to bring pen and paper so that they could write down the URL. It took more than I thought for them to find scratch paper but they eventually came with one and wrote down the address. The children enjoyed the mental challenge. After playing a few games with computers, I let them play each other. I paired the computers. Every time they switched opponents some of them moved so that they could sit next to their opponents. They discussed tactics and advised moves to each other. The reaction was overwhelmingly positive so I decided to play the same game tomorrow. When I asked whether anyone wanted the URL, the two boys jumped up and asked me for it. #MilitaryService #ComputerClub

I used playstrategy.org in order to introduce the Computer Club members to the world of abstract strategy games. I believe that playing games and understanding their rules enhances their logic and reasoning. One notable example is Demis Hassabis, the CEO of DeepMind who won multiple Mind Sports Olympiad events. The first game the kids experienced was Othello. I picked it because it was simple to understand but challenging to master. #MilitaryService #ComputerClub

The math teacher did not come today because she was not ill. One girl claimed that she was about to be replaced but I dismissed that rumor as baseless. #MilitaryService

The GUI wasn't the easiest to navigate so I didn't hesitate to call customer support to ask how to download the list of all books that had been registered. Fortunately the site supported downloading as Excel. However the last books on the list were marked as added in 2021. I had no idea where the 2022 books were. I asked full-timer but of course she had zero idea. She said she would ask and get back to me later but never did so. #MilitaryService

I went to full-timer and asked whether she fetched the library database so that I could begin parsing. She told me that she didn't know how to and instead suggested I set up an account so that I could access the system without going through her. I logged into her account to create mine. I had to sign a document whose main focus was shifting the blame of data leaks from the government to users. As I previously mentioned deprecated endpoints were still exposed. #MilitaryService

(June 12th) On Monday while recycling, I found four pieces of plastic in the glass bin. Someone is still not doing their recycling properly. Also one soju bottle was in the same container. I hope it was not consumed by any students. #MilitaryService

However the child who does not know what odd numbers and evens are said that he had never heard of it. Other kids nearby were as astonished as I was for his ignorance. He explained that he seldom moves out of his neighborhood but does go to Seoul sometimes to meet his relatives. #MilitaryService

Later two girls who had never played cards before approached me and asked me to teach them how to play Blind Man's Bluff, the fan favorite. The game was lopsided, with one of the girls being dealt the better hand every time. The losing player complained that I was purposely dealing the worse cards. However that's not true, I was just dealing the cards from top to bottom. Next time I should burn cards to earn back her trust. #MilitaryService #MathClub

I had some spare time before dinner so we played one game of Multiple Galli. The boy who is widely recognized as the favorite to win should a tournament be conducted on this discipline once again dominated. It is worth noting that the results of categories that directly involve arithmetic are way more predictable than those that implicitly involve mathematical thinking. The three members of Computer Club Class 1 were supposed to convene. However one of the girls' family members caught the flu and she was also not feeling well so she headed home after checking attendance. The sick girl was supposed to bring the prop so once again we had no scenes to film. I suggested a few activities but the remaining two rejected all of them. The two were dating and lost interest in class so I called it off. Not sure if Class 1 can continue. #MilitaryService #ComputerClub

Day 3 of book requests. Students are accustomed to using Excel. Kids ranging from grades 2 to 5 edited the document. I witnessed a huge breakthrough. The kid who has language disorders successfully filled out the sheet on his own. He watched others do it for the last two days but kept hesitating. However today he courageously stood in front of the monitor, imitated the keystrokes and sequence of button clicks that he observed and succeeded. I am so proud of him. #MilitaryService #ComputerClub
