@viticci I'm always on the lookout for a better email client. I've been using #SparkMail for the last several years. Can't say I'm thrilled with some of the new "features" and I refuse to use the new interface. Maybe it's time to give #Mimestream a look.

I’m really liking #Mimestream (https://mimestream.com/). I tried it earlier, when it was in beta, but it didn’t stick then.

That’s mostly because I was constantly bouncing around between Mac OS, Linux, and Chrome OS, and it was just easier to create a shortcut in Chrome (I believe the feature is coming to Safari with Safari web apps) everywhere. I decided to try it again once it officially launched, and it is great.

I definitely see why people want an iOS version for it. Before I switched to Android, the official iPhone app was essentially just a web view, but even now it is still not as refined as its Android counterpart.

For me, the biggest annoyance is I use notifications as a way of keeping a list of things to act on. That’s already fraught in iOS, but even more so with the Gmail app. Just opening it clears all of the notifications. Plus, dealing with a message somewhere else doesn’t make the notification away. The main thing going for the Gmail app is that it works better than the Mail app for Gmail.

Trying the 14-day trial of #Mimestream - it's nice, it's fast but I’m not sure it's something I want to pay a subscription for when I'm a pretty casual email user, not relying on any emails for business.
Nice app though.

@adamengst @TidBITS I would include in the elegance not just the layout and general UI, but the entire user experience.

There is a certain native app elegance that cannot be replicated on the web… or that people don’t bother to replicate.

Mimestream is a solid macOS native Gmail client, sadly *only* supports Gmail at the moment…

Swift Mail seems to be the equivalent for email services like Fastmail that use JMAP. It's in beta but seems very promising so far.

@alanralph Yes, exactly. I like Safari as my default. It's fast. It works well with Keychain, and it's my default on iPad and iPhone, so it's seamless.

It could be better with Google apps. I use #Mimestream for email and #Fantastical for calendar, so there's no problem there.

What's a good #Mastodon desktop app for #MacOS?

The web UI in Safari isn't terrible but I'd like to try a standalone experience as well.
