Upgraded Grafana Mimir installation to 2.9.0 version, and it does seem bit lighter on resources. Currently it is spread across a 9 node k8s cluster with S3 offload, and given on number of metrics we ship to it, it is working flawlessly.

Короче, придумал чудовище Франкенштейна.

Задача такая - сделать расширяемость свойств сообщения в мессенджере, чтобы ввод новых свойств у сообщений не ломали связь со старыми клиентами.
Думал сначала написать что-то вроде Protobuf, но проще. Я когда-то уже изобретал такой протокол за пару лет до протобуфа.
Но придумал классное чудовище.
Какие у нас есть расширяемые форматы, которые можно передавать по сети?
XML - на нём работает XMPP, расширяется как хочешь. Кроме передачи бинарных данных типа файлов. Тут начинается боль - либо кодируй в Base64 и встраивай в поток XML, либо придумывай костыли типа дополнительных серверов.
JSON - я не в курсе мессенджеров, гоняющих всё в джейсоне, и не представляю что там можно сделать для бинарных данных. Тоже дикие костыли.

Поэтому, надо решать проблему с другой стороны.
Почему бы не сделать бинарный протокол, в котором вся метадата сообщения будет в расширяемом формате типа JSON/XML, а сами данные в бинарном?

Кстати, так работает HTTP: читаем заголовки запроса/ответа до \r\n\r\n, а потом у нас идут бинарные данные.

May I present a first build of Mimir - true P2P-messenger on top of Yggdrasil?

It's name is taken from northern mythology, you can google the meaning yourself :)

Very short description:
Every client contains a server part too, other clients connect to it to deliver messages.
These connections are efficiently reused for continuous chatting, and closed after 2 minutes of inactivity.
For the moment only text messages are supported, but other types of messages are on their way.

How to start chat with anybody?
You need to get public key from them and their Yggdrasil IP. The latter will not be needed in a future when I will start some trackers for IP exchange.
When you send first message your buddy will see a new contact in Mimir and his/hers client will automatically save your IP. There is no mechanism of nickname exchange for the moment, you will need to rename contacts by long-tapping on contact.

Just test it :)

Каждый клиент содержит и серверную часть тоже. К ней подключаются другие клиенты для доставки сообщений.
Эти соединения переиспользуются для дальнейшего чата и закрываются через 2 минуты бездействия.
В данный момент поддерживается только пересылка текста, но другие типы сообщений будут добавлены в скором времени.

Как начать чат с кем-то?
Надо добавить его публичный ключ и его айпи в Иггдрасиль.
Второй момент будет не нужен когда я допилю и запущу трекеры.
У вашего собеседника появится чат с вами, и сохранится контакт (пока нет пересылки ников, нужно переименовывать вручную).
