For my first recommendation to vote and for my favorite of all crystals, this is stibnite. It is a great specimen offered by a dealer in the TEP venue of the Tucson Rock and Gem Show this year. The entire piece is about 2 1/2" x 2". The blade formations stacked upon each other make for a natural composition in this macro view. The crystal is so dark, the "steel blue" shows as black and gray with flashes of blue as light hits it. My photos 2008.

One more resource before voting starts: during the pandemic we discovered the alexstrekeisen.it/ site run by Alessandro Da Mommio (in Italian and English). It's chock-full of sample and thin section photos, well organized.

Blue is well represented: here a reaction texture between sillimanite and cordierite, in thin section.

has a complicated structure, with Mg in two sites and Al both four-fold and six-fold coordinated. It has only about 15 wt% SiO2.

It has monoclinic symmetry, but still can form attractive crystal faces when it can grow unimpeded. A good example is on the cover of Dexter Perkin’s on-line mineralogy text, found at:
opengeology.org/Mineralogy/

In polarized light, sapphirine changes color with orientation (called pleochroism).

Does anyone have an idea of what is that strange piece of rock, founded in the garrigues north of Montpellier. There the rocks are mostly limestone, and that one is the only one I founded.

Happy 78th anniversary of the day when humanity created a new mineral, forged in atomic fire. It is something of a miracle that we have survived for nearly a century with this power in our hands. We are barely-domesticated apes, but we wield the weapons of angry gods.

I put a chunk of vivid green andalusite in the coals from a typical campfire. Left it there overnight. Emerged almost jet black: a very dark, dense green in strong sunlight. This is its color from now on, apparently baked through. Any or want to tell me what my campfire can do overnight that the pressure and heat of mama Earth over millions of years didn't?

Finished! MINERAL MOON, 8x8”, watercolor on cotton. An enhanced color view of Sinus Iridum (Bay of Rainbows) and Mare Imbrium (Sea of Showers), showing the iron-rich (mafic) basalts in blues, with the iron-poor (felsic) rocks in oranges and browns.
