Procrastinated it for a while, but I finally bought two of the four adapters I need to digitize my #miniDV tapes via the #Panasonic #camcorder.

after more fiddling, the correct (I hope) #ffmpeg options to archive #miniDV, preserving interlacing (to deal with later), not losing visual information, and not looking washed-out due to poor chroma resampling:

ffmpeg -i ntsc_dv.mkv -c:v libx264 -preset slower -crf 17 -c:a copy -top 0 -flags +ilme+ildct -x264opts tff=0 -pix_fmt yuv420p -sws_flags full_chroma_int -vf setsar=10/11 x264_dv.mkv

it's weird bc the camera in question used all 720 horizontal pixels, not 704 as per the DV spec.
