The calm before the storm I’ve been getting the beds ready and levelling the hügelkultur mound bit by bit to reintegrate it back as part of the beds again. The ground is too dry for the beginning of March but the soil moisture level is helped by having a protective layer of compost on top. Tête-à-tête daffodils have come out to join the snowdrops.

Cover crops growing at the end of October to now, two months on. Some cardboard has been temporarily laid underneath to cover kill small areas of ryegrass. The other cover crops were frost killed. A layer of mulching compost was added to the newly marked out beds (75 cm wide with 25 cm paths). I’ll add living pathways.

6 beds done. 8 more to do when the compost is ready.
