In July 2023, the lowest minimum wage was €399 in Bulgaria and the highest was €2,508 in Luxembourg.

Starting from November 2024, all workers earning the minimum wage will earn enough to afford a decent standard of living.

The rules don't dictate on how much the minimum wage should be. They will ensure that the minimum wage allows for a decent life depending on the cost of living in each EU country.

#Texas judge rejects bill restricting cities' authority

A Texas state judge has shot down an expansive new law that would override cities’ authority to make their own laws, declaring it unconstitutional Wednesday.

House Bill 2127, which opponents have dubbed the "Death Star Bill," would prevent cities from passing & enforcing local rules in several major policy areas without state authorization. That includes matters such as #MinimumWage and worker protections.

#minimumwage is a bad thing because an employer will only hire a worker if they expect that their labour will provide revenue greater than the wage

but if the minimum wage is higher than the contribution to the business's revenue, the employer will not hire them, pretty much making them legally unemployable

As Sarah O'Connor (FT) pointed out yesterday, the one good thing to come out of the current arguments about #inflation & #wages is that the #minimumwage has not been targeted as a 'cause';

Of course, this is partly because the UK's minimum wage remains quite low & in the competition for staff (in a 'tight' labour market), #employers are having to offer above MW to get staff...

But, it also shows the MW is not just part of the labour market - minimum wages as normality is a good thing!
