FedSearch - Federated network search engine

The Minisforum PC went back to Amazon today.... High frequency coil whine (thought it was my tinitus at first, but no...) and obvious loose contact on the USB4 ports. At least when you plugged in a 2nd USB-C cable, only the first connected device worked immediately, the second only after several times in and out. Man, what am I pissed off ...

But what am I glad that I have not discarded my old Linux computer.

My new Minisforum UM790 Pro with the Ryzen 9 7940HS is really a fucking awesome beast! So much so that I'm seriously considering buying a second one to have equally potent machines for Linux AND Windows projects.

Hach, what a rascal I am! I completely forgot that I have a brand new 27" 5K monitor from LG in the box for over a year now... it was connected to the Debian box today instead of the small 24" 1440p AOC monitor. Now I can work well with both systems. I like it.

Ok, new strategy... Yesterday the fucking delivery man didn't deliver the ordered SSD, but took it to a far away pickup store. Then just this solution: now use my old Ryzen PC as a Debian workstation and the new Minisforum for Windows. Yes, I also need a Windows computer for work.... Not a nice arrangement, but what the heck... I'll probably still change monitors, the big one for Debian.

Remarkable... on my old PC with Ryzen 3400G and Geforce 1650GT, the CPU temperature was between 45 and 70 degrees Celsius during normal use and high-quality Noctua cooler, the latter rather when watching YouTube or Netflix.

The Minisforum with Ryzen 9 7940HS with Radeon 780 graphics reaches just 30-34 degrees during YouTube or Netflix playback and surfing on the side! Fantastic cooling!

I can really recommend the new Minisforum UM790 Pro to everyone! By far the smallest but most powerful computer I've ever had. The new Ryzen CPU's of the Zen 4 architecture are the absolute performance hammer. And from the quality a significant leap from the previous models UM690 or UM773. I wouldn't buy them again, even if they are cheaper. Now I will upgrade the RAM to 64 GB and build an eGPU, then everything will be perfect.

I am so super happy with my brand new Minisforum UM790 Pro! Arrived yesterday evening. Incredibly fast, and absolutely quiet and cool even under load. Great cooling concept. And with 2x USB4 I can also connect an eGPU. Now still running Windows 11 Pro out of the box (the included license I gladly take), but after you can install 2 NVMe SSD, I'm waiting for today's delivery of a second such, then comes Debian in dual-boot.
